Hello there! I am currently working on a research project that will delve into the process of publishing a book for the first time. My professor wanted us to choose a topic of interest and as an aspiring writer, I realized this was a perfect opportunity to see what I would need to do to get my work out there. I would appreciate any feedback and advice that you all could give me for this project!
Online publishing and book publishing are two different things. Online publishing could only get you as far as Amazon.com or those online resellers and your readers would only get to view your book in soft copy (i.e. eBooks); whereas, if you go through the regular publishing route, you can still order the book in hard copy – and hard cover, too. Self-publishing companies now offer services that will make your book available in soft or hard copy.
If you are looking for self-publishing companies to publish your book, I know of a few companies that practically holds court to everything a book needs from book cover design customization, layout consultation, copyediting and even marketing. Xlibris is one of those companies that cater to practically all book requirements.
Xlibris is one of those companies that publishes almost all kinds of books with the exception of pornography and hate literature, of course. Why don’t you self-publish and have more freedom with the book? :)
Thanks for responding! I have some questions for you if you wouldn't mind answering them. What are the main differences between self-publishing and going through publishing companies? Pros and cons? And what is your own personal experience with either of the two?
Once again, thank you so much for your time. I really appreciate it :D
